Communications and Content Coordinator

Position Description and Overview
This part time person is responsible for managing member communications, such as email, newsletters, educational outreach, and social media platforms. This position is an integral part of the synagogue’s professional staff and is responsible for creating and implementing a communication strategy in support of our warm and welcoming culture, worship opportunities, educational offerings, programming, fundraising strategies and our overall mission in order to engage current and future congregants, stimulate program attendance, and increase membership engagement. She/he would work closely with the Administrator and all arms of the synagogue as the communication partner on a variety of strategic initiatives with a heavy focus on member retention, education and new member outreach. This individual will be an ambassador for the organization with the goal to advance the organization’s position with congregants and in the broader community.
The Communications and Content Coordinator is supervised by the Administrator and Religious School Director. In addition, s/he works in partnership with Rabbi, Cantor, lay leaders and a variety of committees.
This role requires a high level of creativity, independent thinking, attention to detail, journalistic or creative writing, and project management skills. The results produced by a successful candidate will help us strengthen our existing relationships, cultivate new members, increase interest in our schools, and project the quality and excellence that characterize our people and programs.
Responsibilities of the Communications and Content Coordinator include:
Assess, target, and execute communication needs.
Develop synagogue and Religious School communication materials and components.
Use technology to achieve more efficiency and creativity (i.e., spreadsheets, charts, mail merge, online tools), and implement multi-media platforms for enhanced communication practices.
Produce our monthly print newsletter, daily programming emails and social media communications and advertisements. This includes gathering information, maintaining an accurate program calendar, writing short program descriptions, brief newsletter stories, and proofreading and creating engaging communications across all platforms.
Update content and graphics for flyers, posters, banners, email, website, social media, calendars, letterhead, advertisements, and more as needed.
Arrange, shoot, edit, and produce videos for the synagogue and school.
Design, curate, and edit and publish our comprehensive monthly online newsletter which includes: photos, videos, articles, flyers, signage, and more.
Manage email lists, contacts, and write to congregants as needed: daily updates, events, news, inclement weather, etc.
Create communication chart/graphic organizer for all regular events (Tot Shabbat, Tykes, Pasta Dinners, Family Shabbat Services, Educational Programs, and Congregational Dinner)
Act as ambassador for membership, education programs, events, and other congregant and community activities.
Respond to potential new members, congregants’ questions, religious school parents, and other inquiries: emails, e-blasts, phone, and in person.
Register and maintain all students in the database including class and attendance lists. Calculate enrollment statistics and update spreadsheets.
Outreach to religious school families whose children miss sessions.
Assist the Religious School Director with Religious School registration, attendance, budget, progress reports, contracts (maintain google sheets), digital signage, and communication with teachers and parents (via mail merge).
Collect contracts, curriculum maps, and emergency lesson plans.
Order Religious School supplies (budget approved).
Perform other duties assigned by direct supervisors and clergy in consultation with lay leaders and specific committee chairs.

Job Summary
Duration: part-time, 15 hours. Salary commensurate with experience.
Experience: Entry Level (0-3 years)
Preferred Degree: Bachelors
